Proud in 2008
Friday, 30 November 2007
The Pride team are pleased to announce the festival dates for 2008; the fourth Winter Pride event will run from Saturday 2nd – Sunday 10th February and the Summer Pride festival week will run from Saturday 26th July – Sunday 3rd August, with the main parade and park event on Saturday 2nd August.
2007 saw over 70 unique events during Winter Pride. 36 venues got involved and staged fundraising events including casino nights, speed dating, live music, cabaret, comedy and club nights. Over £7,000 was raised for the charity – well done Brighton & Hove! So if you’re a local business, voluntary group, charity or individual and would like to get involved in 2008 please get in touch with the Pride Office on 01273 775939. And remember if your event or activity helps to support Pride or the local LGBT community, Pride can help with promotion and advertising their Winter Pride magazine, which is distributed across the city in January. The deadline for event submissions is Monday 3rd December.
Highlights of the seasonal wonder Winter Pride 2008 include the one-man 24-hour Static Cycle Marathon with Jeremy at Núa Lifestyle deciding to move the maddest event in the Pride calendar to the Winter Festival. At 2pm on Monday 4th February Jeremy will start peddling and he is looking for someone to join him for some or all of the time. So if you’re as mad as he is and fancy a challenge pop into the shop on Ship Street and register.
And as for our favourite day in August? The Summer Pride theme will be announced in the New Year but it’s not easy choosing a theme so as always it is the Pride membership who suggests ideas. Previous themes have included Carry On, The Greatest Show on Earth, The Hit Parade, Heroes and Heroines, Silver Screen and of course this years spectacular Musicals theme. If you’re a member of Pride and would like to suggest a theme for 2008 please email your ideas to the Pride office on office@brightonpride.org or call 01273 775939 before 20th December.
