The word on the street says things are changing yet again down at the Pineapple. This long established venue has been serving Bristol’s gay scene for more years than we care to imagine and is well and truly part of the furniture of gay Bristol.

Recently the pub welcomed Kim and Sam to the helm and it’s obvious they’re already working hard to put their mark on the place. With a brand new set of ideas and planned entertainment, tonight’s open mike night certainly signalled that there are good things to come.

After a delayed arrival we were gutted to discover we’d missed what would have been our first chance to see emerging talent Erin Stolarczyk perform. Bugger! But we urge you to check her out for yourselves at www.myspace.com/erinstolarczykmusic

Next up was Jamileh Lee who’s varied range of instruments proved almost as unusual as her name, yet undoubtedly captured the audience with her powerful and at times haunting voice. Accompanied stoically by Bex on Cello and keyboards, the performance perhaps lacked a totally polished finish yet clearly demonstrated great potential and left us wanting more. And if anyone does want more then can also check out her music at: www.myspace.com/jamilehlee. Well worth a listen.

Although the Pineapple isn’t the first venue which springs to mind when you think of live music or open mike nights, it certainly fulfilled its purpose tonight and produced a well received success. The night is set to run every other week on a Thursday and considering the number of ‘guitar strumming lesbians’ and singers gracing our fair city, it should have a bright future ahead!
