Reading Pride 2008 : The Parade...
review
Pride day in Reading begins at the Wynford arms as the local community gathered in preparation for a march through the streets.
Buckets and stickers were handed out to glammed-up volunteers, feathers were added to outfits, costumes were put on, clothes were taken off (!) and the huge rainbow flag was unfurled.
This was no lavish parade - but was every bit as important as any Pride march anywhere in the world... traffic had to stop to let the flag through and heads turned as the march made its way through the central shopping district towards King's Meadow Park. Comments like, "Do you think they're all gay?" overheard from interested onlookers makes it all the more important that the LGBT community is both seen and heard!
The parade arrived to a round of applause from stallholders in the park, and everyone got down to the serious business of enjoying a day in the glorious sunshine!
