We may have had a non-existent summer but today our prayers were answered, and alongside the hundreds of festival-goers out came the sun on this glorious holiday of banks!

Admittedly it was a tad strange being inside Flamingos in the hours of daylight, yet it served as a useful passage from the various areas of the festival, whilst of course affording endless alcoholic lubrication. The streets behind the club provided a maze of merriment as we explored, camera in hand, and found pockets of LOVE in every corner. Clichés aside, there really was something for everyone, from camp to cool, and was a joy to see so many new and old faces enjoying a little bit of everything.

The PUSH dance stage performed as expected, giving both aural and visual pleasure while the beautiful people danced amongst the bubbles. As we arrived, Lee Pattison (Deepgroove) was finishing his set in splendid fashion and made way for the likes of Miss Behaviour, Nathan Thompson and the mighty A Jam (Dusted) who certainly satisfied and took the edge off the slightly surreal feeling of dancing in the sunshine.

Through the other side of the club Bernie, James L and Teutronic professed their own version of skew-whiff and regal LOVE in the WONKY vs DUCHESS area, playing tag team throughout the day and finishing with a WONKY classics finale.

At the other end of the musical spectrum, it appears no Pride type event would be complete without a bit of camp flurry. Today was no exception as we were treated to a drag queen frenzy, including musical numbers from the acid-tongued Amber Dextrous and the angelic looking Miss Kitty, who in the shock of the day even managed to get a bunch of lesbians to dance along... in time! Having taken a firm grip of the reigns from early on, Tray la Trash steered through the proceedings, entertaining the crowd in between belting out a few of her own numbers and of course the odd insult or two.

Considering Bristol has a burgeoning scene which seems to be growing bigger year by year, it is a great shame we don’t have an official Pride event here in the South West. However, today showed the cynical few that we could be unofficially proud and have fun with all the trimmings, whilst backing the fight against homophobia and hate crime. Organised by the scene for the scene, today we saw perhaps the dawning of a new era and a chance for Bristol to well and truly spread the LOVE.
