When we sense the mere sniff of a Bizali gig in the offing we always seem to be able to clear diaries and get down there like a shot. Our eagerness to see, hear and experience this Bristol University-bred foursome of funk pays off time after time and with very good reason.
It feels like an age since we last checked out the glamorous and unique surroundings of Joe Publics. With seating ranging from an airline interior to car seats complete with seatbelts and a generous dance floor alongside, it's not surprising the place was packed. Chameleon, the weekly night of live music was full to the brim with freshers, returning students and loyal fans alike, the club well and truly coming alive with the Bizali honed beat of brilliance.
Bathed in blue light, Blythe belted out that beautifully brazen voice of hers, enveloping and overlapping the beats from Daisy on the drums and David's rhythmic repertoire on the bass guitar. Star quality shines brightly upon this delectable chanteuse, complimented with the assured ease and expertise of Aaron on guitar and vocals. Despite a few annoying sound issues the band soldiered on, unleashing a superior set including favourites such as 'Uh-Huh' and 'Lucille' alongside some fantastic new material which had the crowd bouncing with beaming smiles and flailing arms aplenty.
After a frantic foray of festival gigging over the summer and an impending album launch in the pipeline , things really are hotting up for this band. In their fourth year together, forging ahead with their quirky fusion of funk, folk and soul; they're excited, we're excited... watch this space.
