It must be said the Queenshilling takes pivotal place in the field of charitable clubbing, with countless nights providing fun and frolics all for a good cause. Tonight raised a heap of money for Terrence Higgins Trust and saw one of the club's biggest and of course most prestigious dates on the Queenshilling calendar... Miss Queenshilling 2008!
Makeovers were clearly on the agenda tonight as we were treated to not only an oestrogenic overhaul of a pretty boy or two, but our first chance to see the Queenshilling's yearly 'paint and polish'. And polished it feels with roughed up walls, wood panelling, an abundance of plasma screens and even chandeliers to top off the new swanky feel to the place.
In keeping with the theme, the crowd witnessed a full spectrum of glamour from the 'wouldn’t have a clue how to be glamorous' to the 'I came out of the womb glamorous'. At one point we could have sworn Noel Fielding was on stage but due to our sobriety we figured it was just one of the contestants! After a hard fought contest, overseen by the authoritative presence of Miss Electra Fence alongside a bevy of beauties on the panel, the winner was proudly announced. The exuberant yet grossly named 'Minge Eater' took the title tonight, with 'I love a cock-or-two' hailing from over the bridge in second place. Finally, our personal fave, Miss Daphne Ann Blake came in a gracious third.
So yet another year passes and a new 'lady' takes her reign, presiding over the club, and becoming of course the Queen of the Shilling. Well done to all those who took part, it certainly took balls to dress like that!
